Every two years the Red Deer County Fire Department provides fire protection for the Red Deer Air show. Long before the actual show volunteers train on such things as radio procedures, fuel spills, crash rescue, composite materials of the F-18, airdrome procedures and runway familiarization. Not to be out done, the volunteers significant others chip in by cooking breakfast for every one. In 2001 all of the training paid off when there were three emergency responses to aircraft the night before the show began. Fortunately no one was badly injured and the show went off without a hitch.
